All Pliers Are Not Created Equal

Dutch Stowe
Crystal Ridge

I have made the mistake of thinking a pair of long nose pliers was a pair of long nose pliers. Not true. The pliers that you buy at  home improvement stores have teeth on the inside of the jaws whereas jewels pliers are smooth on the inside.  The smooth jaws make it  much more difficult to mar the metal you are working on.  If you are using the right tools,  then the only thing to blame surface marring on is a heavy hand. This was a habit I had to work on. It took me about 6 months of steady work to lighten my touch and not mar the wire or metal I was working.

There are jewelry tools out there at all different price points and quality levels.  The difference in quality can make a big difference in your work.  The better tools are easier on your hands.  They also make forming those loops in your work a lot easier.
