The Bead Peddler®

While there are many beading surfaces, I don't think anything beats a bead board when it comes to laying out a design for a bracelet or necklace.

Readily available at AC Moore's, Walmart, or online at The Bead Peddler® for under 5.00. these boards are real timesavers. They provide three rows for laying out the bead pattern. Each row is measured out in one inch increments with 0 as the middle of the design. There are also wells for holding loose beading components. Designs appear and change rapidly while you insert beads here, remove them there, replace them somewhere else until you have a pleasing design.
