Mismatched Toggles / Bars

Sandra J Paluzzi
The Bead Peddler
®

Some toggle clasps have been poorly made with bars too short to work.  As soon as you fasten the toggle clasp on your necklace or bracelet, it will come undone.  Obviously, these clasps cannot be used to secure jewelry.

However, the different components can be used in beading.  The toggle portion of the clasp can be used as a connector for a 'Y' necklace.  Two can be used to emphasize each side of a center focus design on a necklace.  Small toggle clasps can be used as hoops on earrings.

The bars present more of a challenge but again can be put to use as design elements.  Take your round nose pliers and form downward loops with each side of the bar.  The ends meet forming a circle.  This circle can be a stand alone earring, a connector, or a hoop just waiting for a charm. You can also just hang the bars straight out horizontally on an earwire with a dangling string of beads.
