Managing Thread While Weaving

Sally Morgan
http://www.SilverSally.com

I found a way to keep the thread from fraying and to easily know the best end for the stop bead.  I also learned the trick to moving the needle on the thread in the right direction.

I undo enough thread from the spool to thread my needle, then I slide the needle down the thread until it reaches my arms length outstretched.  At this point, I then double over the thread and slide my fingers this time down to meet the end and then I do another foot or so.  At this point I take the end of the thread I am going to cut and hold it then I slip the bead right on the end and not from the needle end and tie the bead on.
This keeps the thread from twirling on you as you bead.  Now as you bead your foot of thread, you take the loose end of thread and you put the end up the thread a foot or more so it is plenty to bead again for a while and you then hold that position of the 2 threads and slide up to the needle area where you then move the needle to the middle and you are ready to go.  No more moving the thread the wrong direction.
By moving the needle every foot or so you manage to keep the needle eye from fraying the thread in one spot as it is not there too long.
Now I have learned this from trial and error until I do this as a habit.  So I always get the right end with the stop bead and the length of thread I want without unrolling too much.  As I just unroll as I go through the process.  I find this is a clean neat way to manage the thread and solve various problems.
