We are very happy to say that reader response to this page has been excellent. In April, one reader emailed a tip to share and two others emailed questions which Dwyn has answered.

Question from reader:  How do I get the clasp to lay flat on a bracelet?
Beading Times:  That  can depend on the type of clasp.  However, if the clasp  won't lay flat on the table, it won't lay flat on your wrist. If a twisted clasp is attached with a link or jump ring, try adding another jump ring - the clasp should then lay flat at a different angle.   If you have used a crimp bead on the thread, make sure the crimp bead has not been fastened at an awkward angle. We hope that these tips have solved our reader's problem.  If not, she can email the specific type of clasp she is using (or post her problem on our discussion board) and we'll try to further help her.

Question from reader:   How do you determine how long to measure the thread for a bracelet?
Beading Times:   Getting the right length of thread for a finished bracelet -- hmm. I am generous when measuring out thread - as thread is cheaper than my time to restring something that is too short.  For the cable types, i.e. Beadalon, I usually do the base bracelet length, approx 7 inches, plus 2 inches each end (11 or so inches. That way, if I have to cut one end off before it is finished, I still have enough to move down the cable and recrimp it. Which I have had to do more than once!

TIP FROM READER:
Many people use a beading board to lay out their designs.  However, jewelry may look right on a beading board but hang incorrectly on the body.  Here's how Miriam Gorin of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil addresses the problem:

"Following a friends suggestion I always make a small sample of the my project, if it is a necklace the sample looks like it was made for Barbie the doll.  It helps a lot."
