Adjustable Bling Ring

by Carol Ladine Lagoski http://www.creationsbycarolladine.com

TOOLS:

Flush cutters

Chain nose pliers

Round nose pliers

Ring mandrel or similar

Rounder (bur cup) or file for smoothing wire ends

Optional:

Tumbler and mixed stainless steel shot.

SUPPLIES:

4” of 18ga round half hard wire of your choice

Six 1 ½” head pins

Six 4mm beads of your choice

I only used six beads here but you can add more if you desire

Mix or match your beads.  Use gemstone, glass, crystals or even wood.  Have fun!

Step 1

Place your wire across your round nose pliers about half way up the jaws and make a curl.  Go ahead and close it snugly for now.  You will open it a bit a little further on.

Step 2

Shape your wire around your mandrel about a size smaller than you want the finished ring to be.

Step 3

Cross your wires over beyond each other.  I have my thumb bracing that little curl you just made.

Step 4

Trim your wire so the ends extend about 3/8” beyond each other.

Step 5

Now make another curl on the other end just like you did the first one.  Your wire should look something like this at the moment.

Step 6

Now snug around your mandrel until the ends pass one another slightly.  I wear a size 7 ring and sized this one at about 4 ¾.  Since the ring is adjustable this sizing isn’t super critical.

Step 7

Take your chain nose pliers and tilt the curls outward just a bit.

This is what your ring should look like at this point

Step 8

Take one bead and one head pin and make a loop at the top.

Step 9

Bend your pliers over until they touch the bead.

Step 10

Bring the tail of your wire over around the end of your pliers.

Step 11

Bring the tail of your wire around between the loop and the bead.  Make two to three wraps as needed.  Clip excess wire and snug in the end.

Repeat steps 9, 10 and 11 for the remaining beads.

Step 12

Now, open the loops on your band just enough to slide your wrapped beads onto them.

I know this isn’t a great photo but you get the idea.

Step 13

Slide three wrapped beads onto one loop and tighten the loop.

Step 14

Now slide the other three remaining wrapped beads onto the other loop.  Your ring will now look like this.

Now you can make the final size adjustment to fit your needs.

Your new ring is now ready to wear.  Simply adjust the size for what ever finger you wish to wear it on.
