TOOLS AND SUPPLIES:

Sharp Scissors

White Thread

Two #12 beading or two Big Eye needles

One pair silver ear wires

10 oval glass pearls

4 – 6mm round pearls

About a ½ tsp #11 clear AB seed beads

Since there is no stress on these I simply used regular sewing thread.

Optional:

Needle threader

Bees wax to smooth thread fibers

STEP 1:

Cut a piece of thread approximately three feet in length and thread it through your first needle making sure the ends are close to even.  You’ll be working with a doubled thread throughout your earrings.  Now take the doubled loose ends and thread them through your second needle

Step 2:

Thread on two seed beads, one oval pearl, two seed beads, one round pearl, two seed beads, one oval pearl, two seed beads and one oval pearl.  Try and make sure your beads are somewhat centered between your needles.

STEP 3:

Take and twist your threads around each other once or twice.  This will help to keep the thread more taunt while working on the rest of your piece.

STEP 4:

Run one needle through the oval pearl on the other side…

STEP 5:

Now pull your thread snug.  Be sure you only go through the oval bead and not the seed beads on the other side.

Step 6

String on two seed beads, one oval pearl and two seed beads on one side then two seed beads, one oval pearl, two seed beads and one round pearl on the other side.

NOTE:  It doesn’t matter which direction you work

Step 7:

Again, wind your threads around each other once or twice…

Step 8:

And run your needle and thread through the round pearl

Step 9:

Pull your threads snug as you did before.

Step 10:

Thread 10 seed beads on one side…

You can use more if you wish.  Just make sure to use an even number.

Step 11:

Pass your other needle and thread back through the seed beads.  Your piece should look like the photo on the left.

Step 12:

Now pass one needle through the round pearl

Step 13:

Then pass your other needle back through the round pearl in the opposite direction.

Step 14:

Now you can pull those top seed beads snug

Step 15:

Now you want to make your first knot.

You want to make this knot right between the round pearl and the seed beads between it and the oval bead.  Bring your needle around and under the thread coming out of the round pearl.  Make sure this loop is between the round pearl and the seed beads then pull the thread tail snug.

Repeat this step on the other side with your other thread

Step 16:

Now take one of your needles and run it through the two seed beads…

Step 17

Make a second knot here between the oval pearl and the next two seed beads

Step 18

Now run your needle through those two seed beads and through that center oval pearl

Repeat this step with your other needle on the other side

Step 19

Now pull both sides snug and clip your threads as close to your beads as possible

Step 20

Add your ear wires making sure you have an equal amount of seed beads on each side.

You can use all oval or all round pearls and you can use other sizes if you wish.

For more casual, use gemstone beads and different color seed beads

Hope you enjoy this lesson ….

See you next month!
