Pretty Seed Bead Earrings

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES:

Sharp Scissors

Thread

Beeswax

#12 English beading needle

Needle threader

One pair ear wires

A bunch of seed beads (54 total) in two contrasting or complimentary colors

 Used here:

Color A: Bronze (30 beads)

Color B: Peach lined crystal (28 beads)

Since there is no stress on these I simply used Coats & Clark Dual Duty sewing thread.

STEP 1:

Cut a piece of thread approximately two feet in length and thread it through your needle making sure the ends are close to even.  You’ll be working with a doubled thread throughout your earrings.

Starting at the needle end,  run the length of your thread over your beeswax several times.  This isn’t absolutely necessary but does smooth the thread strand.

STEP 2:

Thread ten (10)  color A (bronze) beads onto your needle

STEP 3:

Place these beads close to the end of your thread, form a loop with the thread and tie the two ends together.  Be sure to leave about three inches of tail

STEP 4:

Be sure you make a snug knot.

STEP 5:

Now pick up three (3) color B (peach) seed beads with your needle.

Step 6

Skip a bead near the tie in your color A (bronze)  beads, go through the next bead and pull snug

Step 7:

Pick up three beads, skip a bead and go through the next bead

Step 8:

Continue this pattern until you have completed this round.  Your “working” thread and your tail should be in the same spot.

Step 9:

Bring your needle back up two of your color B beads

Step 10:

Now pick up five color A (bronze) beads

Step 11:

Pass your needle through the upper or middle bead in the next point

Step 12:

Gently pull your thread so you firm up  this row of beads.  You are now forming another point.  Continue until you have completed this round

Step 13:

Here you see the last point of this round being completed.  Make sure you snug your thread until its firm but not buckling your piece.

Step 14:

Bring your needle back up through the next three color A (bronze) beads.  Now you’re ready for the final row.

Step 15:

This last time you’ll need to pick up ten (10) color B (peach) beads on your needle

Step 16:

Go through the top bead in the next point

Step 17:

Continue this pattern around to the beginning.  Pass through the beginning  point of round three again.  Now pass your needle back up through four (4) color B (peach) beads.

Step 18:

Pick up four (4) color A (bronze) beads,

Step 19:

Skip over the top point bead and run your needle down through the remaining four color B (peach) beads.

Step 20:

Snug your beads then tie off your thread and weave the end through a few beads and clip.  Thread your tail onto a needle, I find a big eye needle helpful here and weave through a few beads and clip.

Make your second earring following the same procedures as the first.  Attach your ear wires to the little loops and you are ready to enjoy your pretty new earrings.
