Wrap Around Earrings

By Carol Ladine Lagoski

Just a pair of simple and fun earrings

I used some pretty vintage pink cat’s eye beads and 18ga silver craft wire.

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES:

  • 18 gauge silver wire cut into two 5” pieces

  • Two 10mm round beads

  • One pair silver earwires

  • You will also need a pair of wire cutters
  • Round nose pliers
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Either curved or flat nose pliers for holding
  • Optional small ruler

Step 1:

Take the end of your wire about ¼” from one end and form a loop using your needle nose pliers.  Cross the end over so you have enough excess to wrap around the base

Step 2:

Wrap that end around the base wire and squeeze tight with your flat nose or curved nose pliers.

NOTE:  I find it’s easier for me to clamp the loop between the jaws of my bent nose pliers to hold while wrapping the tail around the base wire.

Step 3:

Now place the loop onto your needle nose pliers and while holding snugly bend slightly so the loop is perpendicular to the base wire.

Step 4:

Lay your wire on or next to a small ruler and slip on one bead to just past the half way point.

Step 5:

Take the ends and bend them down towards the bead going in opposite directions

Step 6:

Begin to wrap these wires around the bead

Step 7:

You should make one complete wrap with both ends of the wire.  When you get to the top where you bent your loop it should look like this.  If your loop isn’t even with the bead wraps just take one of your pliers, grab it and turn it so it is.

If yours doesn’t end just prior to where the wire goes into the bead that’s quite alright.  Just come on around in front of it.  If you use a longer wire you can wrap the bead several times making a nice frame around it.

Step 8:

At the base, take the tail of that wire and bend it down at a point where it is directly below the top

Step 9:

Using your needle nose pliers make a simple loop at the base of the bead.

Step 10:

Now wrap the tail around and cross it over at the top.  Simply clip off excess just in front of that top wire and using the round nose pliers snug the end up making a closed loop.

Step 11:

Add your earwires and enjoy!

You can wrap and add more beads for longer or simply add a single dangly bead from the bottom loop.  You can make these with 8mm, 10mm or even 12mm beads.
