Cube Beads

By Sandy Paluzzi

The versatile cube bead lends itself to a variety of looks.  You'll see cube beads form many moods from classic to elegant to earthy to funky to glitzy... In fact, the only thing the jewelry on this page has in common is the cube bead.  First of all, let's take a look at several necklaces.

The necklace to the left is soft and romantic.  I can see this creation by Amaia in candlelight or sunlight.

While this necklace by Artisan Beads and Crafts also uses cubes as stations, it has an entirely different feel than the previous picture.  Stringing icy crystals on illusion wire leaves us with a minimalistic look.   This necklace could keep you looking cool on the hottest of days.

Can't you just see this turquoise/copper necklace with jeans or cords?  Although the artist, It Comes In Phases, has played up the earthiness of this necklace in her photo,  I can also see it setting off earth tone business attire in an office setting.

This last entry showcasing cubes as stations is created by Ageratum By keeping the cubes in proportion to the rounds and subtly changing the color, she creates a timeless classic.

Bold Beads turns things around and uses the cubes to construct the necklace.  Gold tone links serve as stations to separate the cube beads in this trendy longer length necklace.

This necklace by Kathy's Kreations is a definite eye catcher.  Graduated black cubes circle the neck drawing the eye to the flowery centerpiece.

Lemon Grove brings her hand made graduated cubes front and center.  They grab all the attention as they're suspended on a simple silver chain.

Here, Cheriebeadle, also uses her cubes as the focus piece of her jewelry.  Instead of stringing the cubes on wire, she turns them into dangly charms.  This jewelry has a fun go with everything look.

From From Chaos With Love created our final entrant in the necklace category.  Here, she uses a strand of cubes in her triple strand necklace.  Mixing colors and tones as well as shapes lends a lot of depth to her design

Leanne Designs also uses her cube beads as an integral part of the design.  No one shape or color predominated in this wooden memory wire bracelet which would work with ethnic attire as well as casual wear.

Twinkle Sparkle also has a well balanced piece.  She uses wire wrapped cubes spaced with large silver beads to encircle the wrist.  This bracelet is something I would wear over and over again.

This bracelet by Live.Love.Bead is pure glitz.  I particularly like the crystal encrusted silver cube spacers surrounding some of the Swarovski crystals.

Beaded Jewelry For You uses some of the same design elements we saw in the previous bracelet.  But by turning her bracelet into a bangle, she gets an entirely different, but equally pleasing, look.

And what can you say about a bracelet that is just a solid sheet of pastel cubes?  Monkey Buns has woven a fantastic bracelet she likens to an oil slick.  To me, it is a cobblestone road leading to a fairy land castle nestled in the rainbow forest.

Cube beads also hold their own when worn on the ears.  A simple bright colored cube dangling from a fishhook would definitely work.

But Lovelasmuertas is not content with the ordinary.  She adds a leaf bead to two dangling cubes to provide a lot of play around the ears.

ColorMeKelley Creations also lets her cubes dangle.  This time the earrings form a fluid line when the beads are strung together with eyepins.  The pastel shades add to the flirtiness of these earrings.

JeweLyrie chooses to string her cube bead instead of dangling it.  The addition of a copper strip to the onyx bead relieves the severity of black.  This pair of earrings could go anywhere with anything on women of all age groups.

And last, but certainly not least, {Sweeter than me} designs plays up the geometry of the cube shape by dangling it from a triangular loop.  Whoever thought geometry could look so good?
