Fall styles have unusual colors By Bethany Waldrop Keiper "Lady Autumn, queen of the harvest, I have seen you in the setting sun-- with your long auburn tresses blowing in the cool air that surrounds you." -- Deirdre Akins This October, as you select beads for your autumn jewelry designs, you may be surprised at the shades that will match the popular fashions for fall 2007. Some of the colors are a bit unusual, compared with the rich oranges, warm creams and deep mossy greens of some autumns past. But for fall 2007, colors include soft berries, bright teals, dark peach, and deep purple."Designers find inspiration in a variety of places, but one thing they all have in common this season is a rich, complex color palette to stimulate creativity," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color InstituteŽ. Pantone, Inc. is the world-renowned authority on color. Since some of the more popular colors can be found mixed in patterns on blouses, it is a good idea to keep designs simple and elegant.
This design is a perfect example of just how simple and lovely silvery-gray can be. Smooth, silver-glossed rectangular beads take their places between corrugated silver bicones and tiny silver accent beads for an elegant, flowing strand. This strand would be perfect as a bracelet or necklace, and the flat, mirror-like surface of the beads will glowingly reflect the colors you choose to wear with it. A sleek strand of 6mm metallic rounds of the very deepest amethyst color with similar silver accents gets the message across -- a lot of color and polish without a lot of bulk or fuss. "Nuanced colors with subtle undertones enhance the ever-present neutrals and allow for clever and extraordinary color combinations. Pairing designer pieces with mainstream staples has become a way of life, and color adds an important dimension for expressing one's unique sense of style," Eiseman says. Popular neutrals are cool coffee-brown, and also gray, whether it is light and pearly or deep and silvery.
A simple gray pressed glass star easily catches the light, includes one of this year's favorite neutrals, and has an extra sparkle of a Swarovski clear crystal bicone on top. In the middle, a frosted teal cube is the pretty center in a trio of shapes, with a corrugated silver round on top, and a nipped-corner skinny silver square on the bottom. To the right, this bead is a festival of fabulous fall 2007 color with a browned, buttery-yellow bottom, bright teal sides, and soft, mixed berry on top.
