Create romantic designs for spring

Romance is back for Spring 2006

By Bethany Waldrop Keiper

"Isn't it romantic? Music in the night, a dream that can be heard. Isn't it romantic? Moving shadows write the oldest magic word." -- Lorenz Hart, lyricist

From top to bottom, romantic touches can be found in this year's spring clothing styles. To follow the fashion, add a little romance to your beaded jewelry designs. Soft florals, lace, eyelet, ruffles, frills, and tiny tucks are all current style trends which can dictate the jewelry you create.

From necklines to waistlines to hemlines you will find a ruffle, often single and sheer. Some clothing designs are so ornate that a simple pair of earrings will be the only needed accessory, while other styles leave plenty of room for delicate, romantic jewelry.

High, detailed necks and long, detailed sleeves call for no other jewelry than a pretty pair of earrings -- whether you choose to create simple dangles or intricate chandeliers is up to you.

Teardrop shapes are romantic, and flattering to the face and neckline. Lovely white wedding cake teardrops, with their signature flourishes of goldstone, blue and yellow frit dots, and soft, centered rosettes make perfect romantic earrings. These will look beautiful with pastel clothing, pastel makeup shades, and clear glossy lips. Remember that dangles, the longer the better, are important for earrings this season.

Romantic clothing is often soft and flowing, and scarves made of lightweight fabric are perfect as a romantic touch for a simple blouse. Embellish long, slender scarves in aqua or white with cascading tassels of sequins stacked between brightly-colored seed beads, in shades of melon, aqua, pink, yellow, white, and green. Long scarves also look lovely and add an elegant touch as a waist-tied belt.

Many blouses feature quarter-length sleeves or short puff sleeves, perfect for showing off one or several pretty bracelets. Fortunately, bracelets use fewer of your precious focal beads, while still providing maximum impact.

This bracelet, with its pastel design is a pretty springtime Valentine. This piece beams romance with its intricate details -- from the shimmer of the AB crystal bicones to the natural touch of the flowers and the green of their tiny encased leaves.

For an even softer look, choose more muted tones of pink and green.

This design is a spring treasure, for within its white oval beads are floating pink rosebuds and tiny green leaves. Give the end of each oval a sunny yellow bead cap, and alternate facetted Czech firepolished beads in shades of pastel green and softly swirled pink in between. These delicate colors are a perfect match for many of the soft neutral colors that are popular this spring.

For other romantic designs, consider briolettes, which will be popular for necklaces. Their lovely teardrop shape gives the necklace an illusion of  a "V" and helps elongate and flatter the face and neckline. Take some time to search through your beads for the perfect colors to use for earrings in dangles and long, slender chandeliers. You will also find many designs have a "natural" influence, featuring leaves, petals, and butterflies. Natural influences also refer to gemstones -- favorites this season are predicted to be coral, agate, and turquoise.
